How long does it take to build a LEGO® set?
It depends mostly on piece count. For a typical adult builder: 250 pieces about 40 minutes; 500 pieces about 1 hour 15 minutes; 1,000 pieces about 2 hours 20 minutes; 2,000 pieces about 4 hours 30 minutes; 3,000 pieces about 6 hours 30 minutes; 5,000 pieces about 10 hours 30 minutes. Fast builders finish about 25% sooner and careful builders take about 35% longer.
| Pieces | Fast | Typical | Careful |
|---|---|---|---|
| 250 | 30 minutes | 40 minutes | 50 minutes |
| 500 | 55 minutes | 1 hour 15 minutes | 1 hour 40 minutes |
| 1,000 | 1 hour 50 minutes | 2 hours 20 minutes | 3 hours 10 minutes |
| 2,000 | 3 hours 25 minutes | 4 hours 30 minutes | 6 hours |
| 3,000 | 5 hours | 6 hours 30 minutes | 9 hours |
| 5,000 | 8 hours | 10 hours 30 minutes | 14 hours 30 minutes |
How many pieces can you build per hour?
About 425 pieces per hour at a normal pace, working bag by bag with the TV or music on. Beginners, young kids, and Technic-heavy sets run slower.
How the calculator works
The estimate starts from piece count, then adjusts for part complexity (from each set’s parts inventory), the set’s age rating, your experience level, whether you build focused or with kids, and whether you pre-sort. Each set page also shows real build times reported by the PieceTick community.
